Overview
A squat, flat-topped American stoneware crock-jug with a smooth, even cream Bristol-slip glaze, likely produced in the early 20th century as the industry transitioned from salt-glazing to slip-glazing. The separately-thrown neck/spout assembly is characteristic of retail liquid-goods jugs of the period.
Design & Craftsmanship
- Function & Form: Flat-topped, straight-sided cylindrical body with a small centered pouring spout and loop handle rising off-center from the top. Measures 9″H x 8″W and weighs approximately 5 lb 8 oz.
- Artistry & Ornamentation: Smooth, even ivory/cream Bristol-slip glaze, a lighter and more industrially consistent finish than the earlier salt-glazed pieces in this collection.
- Structural Base: Flat base; a small chip/flaw is present at the base rim.

- Surface Condition: Minor chip at the base rim; otherwise clean, even glaze consistent with the period.
