Description
An authentic percussion mallet used for striking bossed or “nipple” gongs within a traditional Indonesian Gamelan ensemble. The striker features a head meticulously wrapped in red fabric and secured with a dense, white braided cord in a decorative lattice pattern. The handle is hand-turned from solid teakwood, exhibiting a smooth, aged patina from historical use. This functional musical artifact represents the intersection of Indonesian craftsmanship and performing arts, often sourced from the cultural hubs of Bali or Central Java.
Condition Note: Excellent vintage condition. The textile wrapping remains tight and secure with minimal surface soiling. The teak handle shows a rich, hand-polished patina. The steel retaining disc and pin show authentic oxidation consistent with mid-century age.
