Description
This authentic Dayak basket is a masterclass in Southeast Asian “anyam” (weaving). It features high-contrast geometric patterns achieved by weaving natural straw-colored strips (C5A059) against dark-stained bamboo. The piece is distinguished by its unique architectural base—a hand-carved hardwood “X” stand finished in a Deep Terracotta tone (#B35C44). The lid is tight-fitting with a slightly flared rim, designed to protect contents from the elements. While similar in aesthetic to Thai hill-tribe weaving, the specific construction of the base and the weight of the weave identify this as a Bornean tribal artifact.
Condition Note: Excellent vintage condition. High structural integrity with minor surface wear and a natural patina on the wooden base consistent with age.
