Description

Overview

This is a hand-carved wooden figure of a shepherd or mountain highlander, likely from the Carpathian folk woodcarving tradition found across Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania. The figure wears a wide-brimmed hat and a long, heavy cloak carved with a stylized vine-and-leaf motif down the front panels, with hands folded in front holding a staff — a form consistent with regional depictions of Carpathian shepherds and highlanders. This piece is consistent with acquisitions from Craft World Tours’ documented “Romania & Hungary: Village Life & Crafts” tour of August 2000.
