Plain, unmarked 19th-century American salt-glazed stoneware whiskey or moonshine jug in the classic beehive/shoulder-jug form widely produced across the American South and Mid-Atlantic for spirits, molasses, and vinegar storage and transport.
Design & Craftsmanship
Function & Form: Beehive-form jug with domed shoulder, cylindrical body, narrow neck, and small applied strap handle. 8″H x 6.5″W, 1″ opening.
Artistry & Ornamentation: No painted decoration; glaze is an olive-tan mottled wash typical of wood/ash-fired salt glaze.
Structural Base: Unglazed footring, visible throwing rings, buff-tan stoneware body.
Condition Report
Surface Condition: Natural firing pits and age-consistent patina throughout.
