Description
This oil on stretched canvas is a signed and dated work by Eva Husarikova (b. 1942), a founding-generation painter of the Kovacica school of naive art — a Slovak-ethnic folk painting tradition centered in the village of Kovacica, Vojvodina, Serbia, and recognized on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Husarikova has been a member of the Gallery of Naive Art in Kovacica since 1969. The composition depicts a harvest picnic beneath an apple tree — one of her recurring signature motifs — with figures in traditional Slovak dress resting beside sunflower and wheat fields, a village of red-roofed houses, and the Kovacica Slovak Evangelical church tower on the horizon.
