Description

A remarkable and substantial pair of vintage hand-stamped tin architectural finials. The ornate craftsmanship and traditional hojalata (tinwork) techniques point toward the historic mid-century metalworking centers of Mexico, such as Taxco or San Miguel de Allende. These pieces feature an “Aztec Revival” stylistic DNA, with high conical peaks and scalloped edges reminiscent of ancient warrior regalia.

Structural & Scale Note: Standing at an impressive 19 inches, these are larger than typical decorative tinwork. They feature a hollow, half-cylinder open-back design, which suggests they were likely intended as architectural salvage, specifically as decorative caps for rounded building columns, fence posts, or interior pillars. The historical repoussé method used here—hammering and hand-stamping from the reverse side—creates a deep, three-dimensional relief that displays a beautiful, matte oxidation patina.
