Description

This pair of cloth folk costume dolls (male/female) is consistent with Hungarian folk costume dolls, a widely produced souvenir/craft doll type. Male doll: straw boater-style hat, white puff-sleeve blouse, purple felt vest with brass stud/button closures, wide black studded belt, black wool trousers, black knit boots. Female doll: black headscarf embroidered with red roses and green leaves, braided black yarn hair, white puff-sleeve blouse, black felt bodice trimmed in coral rickrack with dark floral embroidery, black accordion-pleated skirt scattered with red rose motifs over a lace-trimmed white petticoat, red ribbon ties. Likely acquired during CWT’s documented visits to ethnic Hungarian communities in Transylvania (2003, 2005 tour seasons). Sold as-is with all associated patina and wear.
