Overview
This is a stuffed cotton elephant figurine in the recognized “Anglo-Raj” style of Rajasthani folk toy, styled as a ceremonially adorned (caparisoned) elephant. It shares the same craft lineage and “100% Cotton Hand Woven Made in India” label style as a companion donkey/horse figure from the same source lot.
Design & Craftsmanship
- Function & Form: Raised trunk, large flap ears with dark trim, four stuffed legs, mirror roundels down the body and back panel. Approximately 6″H at the shoulder, 6-7″ nose to tail.
- Artistry & Ornamentation: Patchwork of repurposed textile scraps, hand embroidery, shisha mirror accents, a woven metallic ribbon “harness” across the back, orange pom-pom tufts, turquoise and yellow glass beads, and a small black bell.
- Structural Base: A printed cotton label on the underside reads “100% COTTON HAND WOVEN MADE IN INDIA.”
Condition Report
- Surface Condition: Light general wear with some loose threads and minor fraying at the mirror surrounds, consistent with age.
- Structural Integrity: Stable and structurally sound. This item is sold “as-is” with all associated patina and wear inherent to its age and history as part of the Craft World Tours Collection.
