Overview
A hand-carved ceremonial wood spoon by Nicolae (Neculai) Popa (1919-2010) of Tarpesti, Romania, a third piece in this documented group alongside SKUs CWT-RO-2008-139 and CWT-RO-2008-140. Same confirmed Craft World Tours provenance from Tom and Sherry Wilson’s December 2008 Winter Traditions of Romania tour, which records the Wilsons meeting the artist personally.
Design & Craftsmanship
- Function & Form: Full-length scale/chip-carved handle with a carved rosette medallion at the neck, joining an oval bowl with toothed rim carving. Measures 20.5″L, weight 14 oz.
- Artistry & Ornamentation: Same hallmark scale-texture chip-carving and rosette medallion construction as its two companion pieces. Signed “N. POPA” carved into the bowl exterior.
- Structural Base: Single piece of solid carved wood.
