Design & Craftsmanship

• Function & Form: A closed, heavy, thick-walled ovoid vessel narrowing to a small, raw-edged opening at the apex — a decorative rather than functional form, not intended to hold liquid. At roughly 16 lbs for a 15.5″ piece, the wall thickness and clay body are substantial, consistent with a heavier stoneware or earthenware base rather than a thin-shell raku form.
• Artistry & Ornamentation: The crown is finished in a glossy cream crackle glaze with fine, dark, feathered carbon-trail lines, consistent with horsehair-raku firing, where hair or similar material is laid onto the piece straight from the kiln and burns into the glaze. Below this, a soft rose/tan transitional band gives way to a finely combed, hand-scored hatch-texture line — a deliberate tool-worked decorative band rather than a firing artifact. The lower body carries a distinct mosaic-tile-style belt of individually scored segments finished in a mottled turquoise and copper-green reactive glaze.
