Overview
Hand-painted redware whistle jug from the Central/Eastern European (Hungarian-Transylvanian) folk pottery tradition. A second small opening built into the handle functions as a whistle when the vessel is filled and blown into.
Design & Craftsmanship
Function & Form: Twin-opening construction: main mouth for filling plus a functional whistle built into the handle tube. 9.5″H x 7″W, 2″ opening.
Artistry & Ornamentation: Amber-glazed terracotta body with hand-painted floral/berry decoration in white, green, and dark blue-black.
Structural Base: Unglazed footring, hand-thrown construction.
Condition Report
Surface Condition: Two old repair/fill spots are visible on the body, consistent with age rather than fresh damage.
