Overview
Romanian ceremonial jug of a documented type historically used in wedding rituals and courtship traditions, combining a strainer, a rattle, and multi-spout construction in one vessel. The base carries a label reading “ROMANIA” from the collection’s own original documentation.
Design & Craftsmanship
Function & Form: Multi-spout construction: a main filling mouth, a secondary hole, and a third opening built into the handle, with an internal honeycomb strainer/puzzle grate visible just inside the main opening, plus a separate sealed rattle element elsewhere in the body that produces sound without release. 9″H x 6″W, 1″ main opening.
Artistry & Ornamentation: Terracotta body with cream slip-trailed striping, feather/leaf motifs, and a bold dark rosette medallion.
Structural Base: Base labeled “ROMANIA”; no additional maker’s mark.
