Overview
Korond (Corund) folk pottery mug/tankard from Transylvania, Romania, inscribed on the handle: “KOROND.” A straight-sided drinking-vessel form (no pouring spout) in the same cobalt-blue-on-cream tradition as other Korond ware in the collection. Craft World Tours documented repeated travel through this craft region across multiple years.
Design & Craftsmanship
Function & Form: Trumpet-neck mug/tankard with strap handle and footed base. 7.25″H x 6.5″W widest, 4.5″ opening.
Artistry & Ornamentation: Cream ground with hand-painted cobalt blue scroll border and a central floral spray with corn-cob motif.
Structural Base: Unglazed footring, no maker’s signature beyond the village-name inscription.
Condition Report
Surface Condition: Glaze glossy and intact throughout; no visible chips or cracks.
