Description
Overview
Large Balkan/Eastern European (Romanian, Bulgarian, or Ukrainian) folk storage/water jug. A slip-trailed zigzag band sits beneath a deliberately splashed and dripped dark iron/manganese glaze, a documented two-stage decorative technique from this pottery tradition.
Design & Craftsmanship
Function & Form: Globular stoneware body, collared neck, strap handle reinforced with a wrap-joint at the collar for load-bearing strength. 10″H x 7″W, 1.75″ opening.
Artistry & Ornamentation: Slip-trailed zigzag band at the shoulder, overlaid with intentional dark iron/manganese glaze splatter and drips.
Structural Base: Flat unglazed base, no maker’s marks — consistent with village/workshop production for everyday use.
Condition Report
Surface Condition: No cracks, chips, or repairs noted.
Structural Integrity: Sound and stable; the largest, heaviest piece in this shoot. This item is sold “as-is” with all associated patina and wear inherent to its age and history as part of the Craft World Tours Collection.
