Description

Overview
Oaxacan barro negro (black clay) jug from San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca, Mexico — the only place in the world where this clay and reduction-firing technique is produced. Craft World Tours documented multiple Oaxaca-focused journeys with visits to the region’s ceramic artisan workshops.

Design & Craftsmanship
Function & Form: Elegant baluster/amphora-form jug with double-collar trumpet neck and single curved handle. 9″H x 6″W, 2″ opening.
Artistry & Ornamentation: Unglazed; the black color is achieved entirely through smoke-reduction firing rather than applied glaze or paint.
Structural Base: Unglazed base consistent with hand-thrown construction.

Condition Report
Surface Condition: A puncture hole with a hairline crack radiating from it is present on the lower body (see photos) — this affects the piece’s ability to hold liquid.
Structural Integrity: Puncture/crack noted; sold as a decorative piece as-is. This item is sold “as-is” with all associated patina and wear inherent to its age and history as part of the Craft World Tours Collection.
