Overview
Signed and dated Rădăuți ceramică tray from the workshop of Florin Constantin Colibaba (1956-2021), fifth-generation master potter of the Colibaba family, whose 240-year pottery lineage was revived by his grandfather Constantin Colibaba. Florin’s workshop operated inside the Rădăuți Ethnographic Museum. Incised on the base: “Florin Colibaba, România, Rădăuți – 1998.”
Design & Craftsmanship
Function & Form: Rectangular serving tray with a scalloped rim and two loop side handles, in the Kuty (Cuți) style of Bucovina, Romania.
Artistry & Ornamentation: Sgraffito-technique decoration through a white slip over reddish-brown earthenware, glazed in the characteristic green, ochre/yellow, and brown trichromy on an ivory ground; central medallion of a stylized peacock/bird with a fanned tail, floral rosette rim borders.
Structural Base: Reddish-brown earthenware clay body, hand-incised signature and date on the underside.
Condition Report
Surface Condition: Some minor expected glaze wear along the scalloped rim edges; decoration otherwise vivid and well-preserved, no cracks.
Structural Integrity: Stable and sound. This item is sold “as-is” with all associated patina and wear inherent to its age and history as part of the Craft World Tours Collection.
