Overview
Signed and dated Horezu ceramic plate by Victor Vicșoreanu (1927-1993), founder of the Romanian Folk Potters Association and one of the most celebrated master ceramicists in Horezu’s modern history, with his family maintaining a house-museum in the Olari pottery village. Incised on the base: “Victor Vicșoreanu, Horezu, 1987.”

Design & Craftsmanship
Function & Form: Round display/wall plate with a twine hanging loop on the reverse, in the UNESCO-recognized Horezu ceramic tradition of Vâlcea County, Romania.
Artistry & Ornamentation: The iconic “cocoșul de Horezu” (Horezu rooster) motif at center in the traditional brown/rust, green, and cream palette, framed by concentric decorative bands: a wide green rim, scalloped white dentate border, and wavy line pattern.
Structural Base: Unglazed terracotta reverse, cursive signature, place name, and date incised into the wet clay before firing.
