Hand-thrown, hand-painted ceramic plate from Romania in the Horezu (Vâlcea region) tradition, carrying an existing collection label reading “Weaver Maria, Romania.”
Design & Craftsmanship
Function & Form: Round display/wall plate with a scalloped rim edge and built-in hanging loop on the unglazed terracotta reverse.
Artistry & Ornamentation: Cream ground with a wide cobalt-blue rim band, ochre/brown/green floral sprigs around the well, and a central hand-painted floral bouquet in the traditional Horezu peacock-tail-variant style, drawn with the horn-and-wire decorating tool.
Structural Base: Unglazed terracotta reverse with built-in hanging loop; labeled “Weaver Maria, Romania” with a faded inventory notation.
Condition Report
Surface Condition: Noticeable glaze loss/flaking around the rim edge; front decorated surface intact with no cracks.
