Description

Tigua folk art painting, the naive/primitive painting style originating from the village of Tigua along the Quilatoa Loop in the Ecuadorian Andes. Signed “Gustavo Quindigalle” and dated 1991, depicting the classic Tigua genre scene: a rural Andean village overshadowed by a dramatic snow-capped volcano (likely Cotopaxi), with campesino figures in traditional dress herding sheep past a thatched stone dwelling. Support consistent with sheepskin hide, a traditional Tigua painting substrate. Likely part of the Craft World Tours Collection, consistent with acquisition during the Wilsons’ 2001 Ecuador & Bolivia tour, which traveled the “Avenue of the Volcanoes” through the Cotopaxi region. Sold as-is with all associated patina and wear.
