Description
A rugged and soulful piece of American folk history, this ribbed “melon” basket is a prime example of Appalachian survival craft. Constructed using traditional primitive methods, it features hand-split oak weavers and heavy hickory or willow ribs that still retain their natural bark, providing a stunning organic contrast. The heavy-duty handle is integrated into the frame using the traditional “God’s Eye” lashing. This style was historically used for gathering eggs or nuts, but today stands as a significant piece of sculptural primitive decor.
Condition Note: Excellent primitive condition. The weavers are tight, and the handle is extremely sturdy. Minor age-related drying to the bark ribs, which adds to its authentic “found” character.
