Description
This robust “yellow-ware” ginger jar originates from Liangdang County in the Gansu Province of Northwest China. The vessel features prominent raised Traditional Chinese characters on its shoulder and lid reading “甘肃两当” (Gansu Liangdang), identifying its specific regional origin. These jars were traditionally used for storing preserved ginger, oils, or grains. This piece is finished in a thick, honey-toned glaze that exhibits a fine crackle pattern and a rich, earthen patina consistent with authentic provincial stoneware.
Condition Note: The jar is in excellent vintage condition with no major cracks or structural repairs. There is characteristic “flea-biting” and minor glaze peppering around the rim and base, which are typical for high-fired provincial pottery of this era.
