This wheel-thrown stoneware vase is a signed and dated example of American studio pottery, incised on the base “Kishpaugh” with an attached “78” date flourish. The maker has been identified as Barry W. Kishpaugh, who completed a Master of Arts thesis titled “Cone 5-6 Crystalline Glazes” at Eastern Illinois University in 1978, specializing in the chemical development of high-temperature crystalline glazes. Unlike the internationally sourced pieces in the wider collection, this vase represents a domestic studio ceramics acquisition, showcasing the amber-and-black glaze work characteristic of 1970s American studio production.
