Overview
A small hand-carved folk spoon whose S-curved handle loops back into a carved horse head. Unmarked; the form and horse motif are consistent with Eastern European folk carving, possibly Carpathian or Slavic. It likely dates to the mid-to-late 20th century and comes from The Craft World Tours Collection.
Design & Craftsmanship
- Function & Form: Small scoop spoon, approximately 7.2″ long, with a teardrop bowl, knife-carved back, and an S-curved handle ending in a loop.
- Artistry & Ornamentation: Horse head with carved ears, incised eye and nostril, and a notched mane down the outside of the loop. Darker, open-grained wood.
- Structural Base: No maker’s marks observed.
Condition Report
- Surface Condition: Dark staining in the bowl and along the handle, raised grain overall, a small raised split or chip mid-handle, and possible small losses at the ear tips, consistent with age and use.
- Structural Integrity: Appears stable. This item is sold “as-is” with all associated patina and wear inherent to its age and history as part of the Craft World Tours Collection.
