Description
An exceptional vintage tribal Kilim rug highlighting traditional Balkan geometric design. The central field features a striking, rhythmic arrangement of three large, multi-tiered stepped diamond medallions—the middle executing a vibrant seafoam green and soft orange palette, flanked by two larger medallions in muted slate blue, pastel pink, and charcoal black boundaries. This bold core is framed by a succession of delicate running-key borders in soft mint green and geometric floral rosettes over a muted lavender band. The thick, organic wool texture and native yarn variance reflect an authentic regional village production.
Provenance & Tour History: This piece forms a key part of the permanent Craft World Tours textile repository. Its precise geometric design layout and regional palette match the sourcing parameters of the 1988 Bulgaria & Jugoslavia Folk Traditions Tour, an expedition that deep-dived into rural mountain cooperatives to preserve and document traditional vertical-loom domestic flatweaves.
Condition Note: Original flatweave structure; material is stable with exceptional weave density. Please note that vintage and antique items from this collection may exhibit additional age-adapted damage, wear, or structural anomalies inherent to their history. This piece features a single, minor localized wear spot/tear hole in the outer green border track, which has been thoroughly documented from both the face and reverse sides in the gallery photos. This item is sold “as-is” with all associated patina and character, as part of the historical Craft World Tours collection.
