Description

Reverse glass folk art painting, consistent with the Transylvanian tradition of painting on the underside of glass, centered in villages like Nicula and Sibiel in Romania’s Marginimea Sibiului region, though practiced in variations across Eastern Europe. Secular genre scene: an elderly man in traditional embroidered wool costume with cross-gartered leg wraps holding a large rooster, alongside a woman holding a decorated egg or bowl, framed within a painted archway bordered by floral rosettes and vine motifs. Bold flat color fields in orange, green, and deep blue; simple brown wood frame; glass panel backed with paper and wood support, wired for hanging. Likely part of the Craft World Tours Collection, consistent with Tom and Sherry Wilson’s repeated documented visits to Sibiel’s glass icon collection across multiple Romania tour years (2002, 2003, 2005). Sold as-is with all associated patina and wear.
