Description

Overview
Original Tigua-tradition folk art painting titled “Shaman,” signed and dated by Ecuadorian artist Olmedo Cuyo of Cotopaxi, Ecuador. Tigua painting is a naive/folk-art tradition originating in the village of Tigua, traditionally rendered on stretched sheepskin, depicting Andean village and spiritual life in vivid, narrative detail.

Design & Craftsmanship
Function & Form: Wall-hanging decorative painting depicting a shamanic ceremony beneath a starry sky, rainbow, and Andean peaks; mounted on a wood panel frame.
Artistry & Ornamentation: Painted on stretched sheepskin/hide in a dense, colorful narrative style: spirit faces, rainbow, moon and owl, snow-capped mountains, a seated village gathering, and a central shaman figure performing a ritual at a waterfall, surrounded by candles and offerings.
Structural Base: Wood panel frame with mitred wood edges on the reverse; no hanging hardware currently attached.

Condition Report
Surface Condition: Surface shows expected age wear; some flaking along the painted black border and insect/wood-boring wear along the bottom edge, likely from long-term storage.
Structural Integrity: Hide-to-frame bond shows some separation/lifting in spots; stable for display but should be handled and packed carefully. This item is sold “as-is” with all associated patina and wear inherent to its age and history as part of the Craft World Tours Collection.
